Sharp Electronics has started shipping its Aquos Quattron LE830-series LCD TVs, which are available in screen sizes ranging from 40 to 60 inches. The sets, which use Sharp’s four-color Quad-Pixel technology, have edge LED backlights, built-in Wi-Fi, and access to online content.
All four models are 120-Hz sets that can use built-in Wi-Fi to access online services, including streaming movies from CinemaNow, Netflix, and Vudu. In addition, all sets are very energy-efficient, Sharp says, meeting Energy Star 5.1 guidelines.
The TVs also include Sharp’s Quad Pixel technology, which adds an extra color—yellow—to the standard palette of red, green, and blue pixels found on most TVs. In our tests of earlier sets with this technology, we didn’t find it to make any noticeable improvement in overall color performance.
Here’s the complete LE830U lineup, with suggested prices:
- 60-inch LC-60LE830U, $ 2,800
- 52-inch LC-52LE830U, $ 1,900
- 46-inch LC-46LE830U, $ 1,500
- 40-inch LC-40LE830U, $ 1,300
At CES, Sharp also announced even larger 70-inch LCD TVs, which will be available later this year in LE935- and LE732-series sets. These models both use full-array LED backlights with local dimming.
We’re looking forward to getting some of these new Sharp models into our TV Test Labs to see how they perform.
