Beautiful looking set, great picture. BUT – steady buzz from back of set. Not very loud, but clearly shouldn’t be there. When sitting in front of the TV with it turned on, you really can’t notice. But if you turn volume down, or mute, it is clearly noticable. Called customer service – and she was clearly someone with barebones training. Most questions I asked her, she put me on hold and obviously checked with someone else. Anyway, bottom line is she came back to the phone and told me that ‘that’s normal; that’s the way the set sounds’. I voiced my concern about this answer, but clearly was not going to get any further on this phonecall. Hung up. To be sure I wasn’t being too picky, I had my wife and a brother come into den, where this TV is, and they both agreed that this was, in fact, NOT normal – at all! Called Samsung back, gave them history, and told the guy NOT to tell me this was ‘normal’. He didn’t. Instead he dispatched local repair shop. Several days later service guy arrived, and took set apart. He figured out which module was buzzing, and ordered one. Two weeks later he returned with an entire front panel of the TV. This includes new screen, frame, most of the guts (including buzzing component), less one board, and power supply. Samsung told him to order it that way, not just the “failing” component (?) Almost a new TV entirely! He put it all together, and guess what? The noise was still there, but now louder than ever! That was a few days ago, and here I sit with my now louder buzzing TV, that I can now hear, sitting in front of set with normal volume on. And Samsung says this is Normal !! Grrrrrrrrrr. The service guy now plans on ordering a new power supply, and replacing that. If that doesn’t work, he thinks a new set entirely is in order! Except for 1 board where all the jack connectors are, the metal back panel, and the pedestal, isn’t that what I already have?? ! To be continued….

grabbed 1 on sale this week to replace

a very very old unit in the home.

the entire viewing family is VERY pleased

    with this unit.

1 – we don’t have the high buzzing sound

from ours that one person mentioned as a

    defective unit.

2 – the dark colored front panel controls

on the lower front bezel are a bit light

but we mostly use the remote controls so

    that isn’t a real issue.

unit fits our built in hardwood multi

media cabinetry perfectly 37″ is the

right choice for our smaller viewing area.

i think the screen views well even from

    extreme side seating locations.

    things i might suggest to the factory;

1 – it seemed the set had minimal padding

inside when i opened the box. ours is, as

i said, in perfect shape, but if i was

the factory QC guy, i’d be putting more

protection in front of the screen. ours

used a 2 inch space for protection and the

    box itself.

2 – i’d try to put small recessed handle

grabs in the rear frame in a larger design

element like this. lifting it is a two

person job per the manual but both people

found their grips slipping on the highly

polished (and good looking) set edges.

our entire extended family seems to have

settled on the Samsung line. that’s

about 12 sets! really; we all love this

brand, have many different styles and

have had great experiences with the

performance and reliability of the Samsung

equipment. we did get an extended warranty

anyway on an investment like this one.

i haven’t tried the connectivity to my

home network yet, but the menu seems well

designed and very logical. my wife is becoming

the family set it up expert.

i gave this 5 stars in the rating.

    very pleased.

    oh… i have a large surge suppressor

UPS box on the infeed from the electric

outlet. we have them on ALL our electronic

devices, PC, etc. power in our area is very

prone to spikes and storm related events.

    i’d suggest this to anyone.

The picture quality is very nice, set up is intuitive, and the styling is attractive. The first TV had a loud buzzing sound emanating from the rear. Other reviewers have noted this and it was noticeable at normal listening levels. Some times it was loud as soon as the set was turned on and other times it became louder over time.

The second set hasn’t had this problem yet. A low buzzing sound is still present, but you cannot hear it while watching TV. There appears to be an issue with a component on this model since my older Samsung doesn’t exhibit this problem.

The price is right and the set is very nice, but you may have to exchange it due to the buzzing sound.

I purchased this a few months ago and I’m very happy with my purchase. It was easy to program and I especially love the feature that allows me to control the maximum volume while changing stations or while the station goes from one commercial to the next. No more SCREAMING commercials! Excellent picture quality, great sound, easy setup and the delivery company even carried it upstairs to my master bedroom and set it up there!

Product was very easy to set up and has an excellent picture. We are in a fringe area and still use an antenna. The design and features on this TV has met all of our needs. I would recommend this TV as a nice addition to any home.

The Samsung LN73B550 is a beautiful TV for an affordable price. If you’re in the market for a LCD less than 40″ then I would highly recommend this one. The colors are sharp and very crisp. Setup out of the box was extremely easy. My only quibble might be the sound quality, but I think that may be due to it sitting in an enclosed entertainment center. Samsung has become a leader in the LCD market for a reason and this TV is a testament to that fact.

Got this instead of the A550, which was well reviewed but criticized for its speakers. This one both looks great and sounds good as well. It’s sound is nothing compared to my theater system, but I have no complaints at all on it. Picture is beautiful.

I am very happy with the Samsung LN37B550 LCD TV (and the Samsung Blu-Ray Player BD-P1600).

I do not understand how you could ever think a “Red Touch of Color” bezel means “ambient light” or even that the bezel has a “light source.” As for having the Red Touch of Color on the bezel, I feel it is meaningless for most people anyways because it just helps distinguish between the 2008 LNxxA550 and the 2009 LNxxB550.

After having looked at Consumer Reports and other sites for ratings, I “settled” on the value of the B550 and did not feel the extra expense to get the B650 (with double the refresh rate) was worth the extra money. I can say that I could see the difference of 120Hz versus 60Hz refresh rate at a retailer, but for home use it was not worth it.

Shipping for me was as quoted and I really appreciate the scheduling of delivery, that way you do not have the TV sitting out for someone to steal.

I have not used the speakers on the TV since I have an external sound system. I do have issues with volume “leveling” when using Pandora on the Blu-Ray Player, but I do not believe it is related to the TV.

I wish there was actually an internal “battery” that kept the clock when there is a power-outage but that is just another component that could fail or need to be replaced so it did not diminish my rating.

I did HDTV research for more than 1 yr before I settled for this beautiful quality Samsung LN37B550. Absolutely worth every penny. This TV has the best picture quality stand-alone when compared with other sets. Now you can tell me all about contrast ratios, or viewing modes, or viewing distances, this and that, whatever and whatever, okay. To me, my eyes and ears don’t lie. All the TV broadcast programs look absolutely stunning, and my place sounds already like a home theater before any stereo system set up is made. I also hooked up my Core 2 Duo (3 GHz) Dell using this Samsung as my primary monitor. The picture is outstanding. I 100% recommend this set. I was debating between a Sony, Sharp (there were a couple VERY good deals at both Costco and Bestbuy 1080p 40″ for $700 or something), Panasonic, Toshiba, and Samsung, now yes perhaps you will spend like $50 or more on a Samsung, but TV quality, both inner and outer beauty, just cannot be beat.
