After researching HD products, and believing I had found a good deal, I order the Philips 42″ LCD widescreen. After receiving it and setting it up I watched great TV for about 4 or 5 weeks before the power supply crashed and my TV was completely dead. Needless to say I was upset.

3 weeks later the TV is up and running again (at no additional cost to me due to the 1 year warrenty). This could have been a bad egg 1 in every 10,000 tvs have, so I can’t say “Philips TVs suck!”, but you make up your mind.

Other aspects: Picture is “OK”. A nice crisp image that is obviously better than regular TV but it doesn’t make me feel the need to worship before it or anything. The TV has a nice feature that will automatically stretch or shrink any analog input size to wisescreen, but it tends to stretch the outer most limits of the picture. This is only a little distracting and not the end of the world. Note: when the TV is displaying Widescreen HD input everything is perfectly sized.

Sound is decent for TV sound.

The TV has a lot of customization settings that allow you to choose preference of mood and cool or warm colors.

The stand the TV comes with is very nice and heavy. the TV tilts with ease to the right or the left. Exluding the Power Supply Melt Down I’d give it a 3.5 out of 5, but if I could do it again I’d look for a different TV. Hope this helps.

I am NOT a TV guru, but I did a lot of research before buying the 42″ PHILIPS 720P LCD HDTV. I was confused about the meaning of 720P and 1080 and blah blah blah. The 720P makes up the color between pixels instead of giving you the “true” picture. It fills in the blank more or less. Well to my surprise, IT DOESN’T MATTER!!! I looked at a 720P and 1080P side by side in the store and I could not tell a difference AT ALL! I have 20/20 vision, I am not cross-eyed and I don’t have an eyepatch. SO If it makes you feel better to purchase the 1080 and pay an extra $600.00 to buy you peice of mind, I say do it. However, as somebody who usually upgrades when buying a car from cloth to leather, getting the house with the extra bedroom and bath or 9 times out of 10 goes ahead with the 4 GB instead of 2 GB just in case, I can honestly say I don’t regret getting the 720P and I think it was a heck of a deal. Buying a 42″ LCD made by a trusted name in electronics all for less than a thousand bucks? Can’t beat it with a stick!

Oh yeah, and the picture and sound are awsome. The TV itself has a surround sound feature that is pretty good and it puts out plenty of sound to fill a 15×18 room. My only recommendation is that you set the backlight up a hair so black shows as a dark grey instead of black black. I really like this TV and I would buy philips again if I could get the same bang for my buck…

I have the Philips 42″ 42PFL5332D/37, and I have to say I really love this t.v. I got it off Craigslist from a guy who said the picture just went out one day, but the sound still worked. It was only $100, and it was in mint shape, so I decided to get it. Some research pointed me to the master and slave power inverters being defective, and I never really got anywhere with Philips support (since the inverters were defective, they released several revisions to the inverter and an extended coverage of warranty, but without proof of purchase it was hard to go through with that process.) So, I found the inverters on eBay, got both of them shipped for under $70 and did the repair myself, and I’ve loved it ever since. The picture quality is amazing, although it is 1080i instead of 1080p (as per the website), but nonetheless picture quality is stunning. The built-in speakers are a bit weak, but I just use my surround to counter that. Overall I’m impressed with the simplicity of getting it set up, and the firmware updates improved some of the menu navigation issues, but it’s still a bit awkward to navigate because of the layout. I still say it’s an awesome tv though, and for the price I paid for it I can’t complain at all.

This television is better than I expected, very easy to set up and use. Picture quality is very good. When I ordered this T.V. I was a little concerned about ordering such an expensive item online, but everything worked so well. One small problem was when this item was ordered it was the last “FACTORY SEALED” item in stock. After the order was placed the company(TECH-FOR-LESS)that had the T.V. called me to say that the “FACTORY SEALED” item was not in stock, but they had 3 Philips 42PFL5332D 42-Inch LCD HDTV as “OPEN BOX” units. And if I would accept one of these they would also add a 2 year warranty at no additional cost, which I decided was fair.

When the television arrive at my home it was like new except that the stand was missing. When I called TECH-FOR-LESS they were very nice and apologized for my inconvenience and that they would send a stand that day, which they did. This is a great T.V. at a great price. Also very happy with the various inputs, with the USB port I can load my flash drive with pictures and plug in for a very easy way to view my pictures.

    Very Good Image ….

    Auto was up colors ….

But I recommend that everybody connect this LCD TV in a source voltage regulator, Because This TV is very sensitive to electrostatic discharges, doing this we will be ensuring the life of LCD TV ..

    In Another words….

I connect my PS3 with the HDMI cable, and the PS3 recognized a range of resolusion from 480p to 1080i, although it is 720p, I do not want me to imagine how it is the 1080p resolusion. 😉

My seller was teach for less .. everything came good friends … thank you very much.
