3net, the new full-time 3D network jointly formed by Discover, Sony, and IMAX, is developing a four-part original 3D series about the Civil War that will air this fall.
According to the company’s press release, the program will include period reenactments shot in 3D, combined with digitized archival stereoscopic still photos that were taken during that period of time.
The series, currently being called The Civil War 3D, will feature narratives from two opposing regiments. The program will be shot on location in Illinois, but some reenactments will be filmed at some of the actual locations, including Gettysburg.
In an interview with the “Hollywood Reporter,” 3net president and CEO Tom Cosgrove said the network is working on other original scripted 3D series, including dramas. The plan is for 3net to shoot all its programs natively in 3D, rather to convert it, for the highest possible 3D quality, he said.
