The set arrived on Monday after ordering on Friday with free shipping. It was single boxed; but the box was not damaged in any way. After getting it hooked up via the component and VGA inputs; I was so amazed by the 2D picture quality that I didn’t even try the 3D until the next day. The colors really sizzle, and textures look so real that they almost look 3D in 2D mode.

A few points: This TV is an energy saver, so that means it won’t turn on quickly. I almost thought the TV was dead until I realized it has to “boot up” after being powered down. The green light blinks during the boot process, and turns solid green when it is completed. When powering down, it turns red, and then off.

Second, VERY complete documentation is available on the Toshiba support site; a fact which is printed on the cover of the very abridged manual included with the TV. You can download the full manual which goes through every single function in excruciating detail; it is over 100 pages of information!

Third, you do not need to be 10 ft away to see 3D, 4ft is more like it (the full manual contains all the specifications). However, there does seem to be a sweet spot at about 10 ft where the 3D looks best. You must view at eye level though; for the 3D to work properly. Keep this in mind when placing/mounting the TV.

Fourth, original 3D content must be on the digital inputs. Analog inputs support the synthetic 3D, but not original 3D content. An HDMI connection is required for that; but keep in mind that a DVI to HDMI cable will do the trick for older equipment without HDMI. Also, the TV has four (4) HDMI inputs; which should be enough for most purposes. I will need one for the computer, one for the cable box, and I have two left over for a 3D blu-ray player and my 3D camera.

I ordered the cables from Amazon for the cable box and the HDMI on my laptop, which I am fortunate to have! I could have called Comcast to get a newer box; but why bother when I can get a cable that will do the trick for a few bucks? Besides, I have a lot of stuff wired up to existing box, including my old Slingbox. The cable box is an old tank of a box with DVI and component output–Made in the USA by Motorola — and I want to keep it. It looks like it was made to fly to Saturn; and will probably last forever — like my old Kenwood receiver from the 1970’s… it still works!

I have an Aiptek 3D camera which connects directly to HDMI; I plugged this in and the 3D worked beautifully. Also, using synthetic 3D on Microsoft Trains Simulator resulted in a very realistic 3D experience; I was amazed! The results of course will depend on the content as some content works better with the engine than others….for example cartoons appear flat and 2D even in 3D mode, which is really as it should be. Apparently the processor takes 2D depth information and converts it to 3D… the more 3D-like the 2D image is (i.e. has large depth of field); the better the fake 3D will be. It can be inconsistent on regular programming; but on games it seems to work very well….if the game is a game with depth of field (not a 2D flat game) you are in for a wonderful surprise! Without a doubt, this is the best on-the-fly 2d to 3d conversion I’ve ever seen! It should be; it uses the same type of Cell processor that is used in the PS3.

I plugged the set into my home network with an Ethernet cable; and it downloaded a firmware update right away! Impressive!!!!

I just recommend that anyone buying this set become thoroughly familiar with its capabilities; either by spending a lot of time experimenting in the menus; and/or reading the extended manual you download from the Toshiba support site. Once you are familiar with the set; I think you will love it as much as I do! If you want to see a professional review of this product, I recommend […] I based my decision to buy on that review; not the reviews here.

All in all; this may be the best 600 bucks I ever spent. A truly amazing product!!

This TV has a great picture, good blacks for an LED LCD.
The automatic adjustment of the back-light can be a little sensitive.
The sound is pretty good for such a thin TV, as expected bass is lacking.
Plenty of connectivity options, Netflix works great, love the ability to connect to other computers on my network and play videos and movies.

I would have given it 5 stars but there were major problems with the condition of the box from shipping. Amazon did not double box it, the box looked like it had been dropped off a truck or two, the Styrofoam packing blocks where crushed and crumbled. Also, UPS just set it against my door and did not knock. I live in an apartment complex but I heard him lean the box against the door, if I was not home, I probably would not have a TV right now. Fortunately the TV was undamaged but Amazon should take more care and double box such an expensive item and talk to UPS about their shipping practices and require a signature for such an expensive item.

My wife had been very impressed with a larger 3D TV that she had seen in another home. We decided that we wanted 3D, but living in a smaller home, we did not want a TV that would take over the house. The Toshiba arrived within two days after it was shipped. The setup was easy and quick using HDMI cables only and it interfaced seamlessly with the Panasonic sound bar that we had also ordered using only the HDMI cable and connecting it to the ARC compatible connection on the TV.

The TV was totally as depicted by Amazon and we are thrilled with the result. The 3D is amazing and the 2D to 3D conversion works better than we had expected although not as good as native 3D. The colors, back lighting and HD are all excellent. For the record, other than TV shows, we watch primarily movies. The WIFI setup was easier than that on most other devices that we have used taking less than 5 minutes form start to finish. We signed up for and used the Netflix right away and it works perfectly.

You need to be aware that the TV appears to have a processor that can take up to a couple of minutes to boot up so don’t be surprised as I was and think that something is wrong when you first turn it on. Also, the user manual is not included in the box but is available to read or download from Toshiba’s web site. I recommend that you download it.

Overall we are very happy with our purchase and would definitely recommend this TV.
